I passed out at home had a seizure, went to ER, did a cat scan and they found a growth. Awaiting surgery in the next week to remove it.
Matt Haughey, of MetaFilter fame, is undergoing something eerily familiar to my first few months of 2009. I’m not sure of the details, other than the above twitter post, but having been in the same situation so very recently, I have to say… it’s not fun. Bitchin’ scar, for sure, but yeah, it’s tough. But thank science! Neurosurgery and neurology in general have made amazing leaps forward in the past few decades. In college, I worked shortly in a research lab that pioneered stereoscopic imaging for neurosurgery, aiding surgeons in prepping for craniotomies. That was just 10 years ago. Now we have amazing people saving lives and getting people back on their feet. People like Dr. David Newell, the doctor who pulled a granuloma the size of a small plum from my left temporal lobe, and Dr. Jehudah Sepkuty, my diligent and caring neurologist. Like I said, this isn’t an easy thing to do, but you appreciate every little bit of life you live afterward.
